so on the subject of the "Crowley is secretly Revaan/Laverne/Levin/please Twst give us his name" theory, I think my feelings are best summed up as "I don't really buy it, but it's funny". like, in all seriousness, I'm not opposed to it; I have enjoyed the writing in Twst so far and I'm willing to trust that whatever happens will, you know, make sense and not be terrible. but I'm just not really convinced by the current evidence! maybe that'll change once we learn more, we'll see!
with that said, may I propose a few alternate theories about the possible Crowley/Revaan connection:

even though i feel like i can confidently tell when a piece of art is generative A/I, i really don't feel inclined or really even justified calling someone out for it due to the precedent it sets - especially when artists who DO make their own pieces get caught in the crossfire for being inexperienced or making the choice to be more free-form when it comes to character design / consistency...
#i can't even really put into words how I can Tell#other than like... random blurry details in areas that would not logically have those details blurred - for styles imitating digital art#what i mean by this is: you can kind of tell when and where a type of tool has been used when it comes to digital pieces#if it looks like an artist grabbed the smudge tool and used it in a small area surrounded by crisper details ... it seems like an arbitrary#- and thoughtless decision#especially when it comes to character design pieces#this blurriness is also present in a type of style that wouldn't see much reason to use the smudge tool at all .. such as a cell shaded -#- toon style with thick outlines#i think what bothers me about this whole debacle is how we're setting up an environment where people feel inclined to lie about using-#-generative tools... part of the problem is the foundation of a/i art to be using people's work without . permission. im sure a good amount#-of artists wouldnt have minded MAKING pieces to be used solely for these type of tools#since generative art has been used as an excuse to replace artists in an attempt to render their work unnecessary or obsolete ... it's -#- become politicized and viewed as anti-artist. which. fair enough. it was pitched and sold that way#but even if like... these initial problems were addressed i feel like there'd still be a lot of stigma associated with generative art#since a lot of people's beef with it is the fact that it feels soulless. and i feel like that has to do with how the generated works are -#- being passed off as completed full pieces and not have any transformative work done upon them#i always joke about like 'they should invent art that's easier to make' ... but i don't want the hard work on my end replaced#just some help really. or guidance on completing my own work. A/I could have -possibly- been used as another form of reference#(if it were more competent. i think it's sloppy as hell in its current state)#but before it was uh... hugely controversial and right when generative A/I got more competent? i actually saw it as a toy.#i wanted to play with it and see what would come out... im honestly just more-so frustrated that it's viewed as on-par or better than-#-work done by human beings. what makes something art to me is if it's been transformed by human intention and connection#and i don't get how it's snobby to dislike A/I art for that reason. why do y'all think artists love when people dissect and examine their-#-work ? art is about human connection. we have ancient monuments and abandoned cave paintings we know nothing about-#- but are captivated by because we want to know WHY they're there. WHO made them. and for what reason#and i think a/i art is a painful reminder for a lot of artists that to a lot of people art is only valued through aesthetic merit#no acknowledgement for an artist's hard work .. their life .. all the personal intention behind their work#it's the commodification being thrown back in our faces tenfold#another tag essay by me. shiloh

anyways this might make some people mad but it's kind of hilarious how some chronically online people are constantly saying that Taylor isn't a real feminist and that her political engagement is useless etc etc, but she was the one who gave an endorsement with her full chest (not only that, but it was one that the Harris campaign said was hugely helpful to them and political strategists called well-written and effective) and some of the pop stars y'all hold up as the gold standard of activism are still hemming and hawing & regurgitating wishy-washy "both sides bad" nonsense because god forbid they stick their neck out and lose some of their internet clout for an election where our democracy is quite literally at stake

i am definitely procrastinating on my studies right now (hello, finals) and no one asked for this, but. okay, as someone who’s now just a gasp away from finishing her first year of law school, the way i can confidently say that yes, make friends at law school/professional school in general. but also the way i want to slam over everyone’s heads that like. also. it is quite literally necessary to stay in touch with and invest even more deeply in your friendships outside of professional school because hello did you know that those people are going to be the ones that remind you that you have an actual personality

the greatest thing homestuck ever did for us was invent tricksters, thus letting us all design cute candy themed outfits for any and all characters even though the actual canonical designs looked like complete total fucking garbage
#they werent even based off of a single candy theme. it was just a mess of hideous colors and mixed motifs#i guess u could say they were just......... colours and mayhem? :D#teehee ^u^#but really making candy themed colorful outfits was the best thing they ever did for us#especially when we were all thinking of how trolls would look trickster-fied#it was awesome how we all collectively ignored that the actual trickster designs were ugly as shit#AHH!!!!!!!! my friend in tattoo school worked on me today 💗
first one is a fine line quote in my bro’s (very childlike) handwriting on my left arm, and second is the (beginning of a) parkour tattoo on my right thigh, also for my bro 🥰
#i’m gonna get the parkour one touched up and added onto later#i kinda had to tap out on the shading lmao so it will be filled in around the letters#and i’ll level out the bottom before adding some floral and geometric motifs around it#tbh it’s totally fine with me if the lettering part never turns out ‘perfect’ anyway like the whole idea is a big inside joke#that has to do with injuries and my bro doing parkour growing up#so it feels kind of fitting as is?#i just want to tidy up the letters even out the bottom arch and finish filling it#and then add a bunch of fun stuff around that’s really clean and ‘pretty’#like my bro would like it already by concept alone and just be like ‘ok very you’ after adding all the pretty stuff around it#and bc they’re both memorial pieces that’s all i really want in the end 🫶#but yeah considering my friend is still in tattoo school and quite early in still i’m really proud of them!!#the arm tattoo especially im v sentimental about and i’m so impressed w how well#they were able to emulate his handwriting so 💗💗 big win for my heart#alex talks
